Cornubia is the larger-block end of the eastern belt, running from the established residential streets out toward the bigger holdings on the Logan River side. The houses are mostly 1980s and 1990s, owner-occupied, and the pools are correspondingly generous: longer than the standard family rectangle, often with a deep end, sometimes with a spa plumbed in alongside. Working from build era rather than any published figure, most of them are on at least their second interior or overdue for it.
We connect you with experienced, insured local pool renovators who work Cornubia and are set up for the larger jobs this suburb produces.
Bigger pool, bigger numbers
Resurfacing and tiling are priced substantially on area, so a longer pool costs meaningfully more than a standard one in both material and days on site. That is worth knowing before you compare quotes with someone in a smaller suburb, because the guide ranges published everywhere assume a standard family pool. A pebble resurface on a standard pool typically runs roughly $8,000 to $15,000 ex GST and a larger one sits above that, with premium quartz or glass bead higher again. Guide pricing only, and the written quote after an inspection is the number that counts. The cost guide explains what moves it.
The case for doing it all at once
On a big pool the fixed costs of a renovation are a larger share of the job than people expect. Draining a high-volume pool, setting up site protection, and waiting out curing time all cost the same whether you replace the interior alone or the interior, the waterline tiles and coping, the fittings and the equipment. Owners who stage a large pool across three summers usually pay more in total and lose three summers. Deciding the finish, the tile and the coping stone before anyone arrives is the other half of that, because changes of mind mid-job on a pool this size are expensive.
Toward the river: acreage considerations
The further out you go, the bigger the blocks and the older some of the pools. Two practical differences follow. Machine access is usually possible, which cuts the labour on a strip-out considerably, and plenty of acreage blocks out this way are not connected to reticulated services, which changes how a drain-down is handled because it is managed on the property rather than discharged to a network. Check what applies at your own address with Logan Water rather than assuming either way. Mature trees on these blocks also mean serious leaf load, so filtration sizing deserves a look at the same time.
Frequently asked questions
Does a spa alongside the pool get renovated at the same time?
Usually yes, and it should be. The spa shares the plumbing and often the interior finish, so doing it in the same drain-down costs far less than a separate visit later.
Are spas covered by the pool safety rules?
Generally yes. Spas capable of holding water above the relevant depth fall under the same registration and barrier requirements, with some allowances for lockable child-safe covers. Check the QBCC guidance, and remember the certificate itself comes only from a QBCC licensed pool safety inspector.
How do I compare two quotes on a large pool?
Line by line, not by total. One may have priced a coat-over and the other a full strip, one may include new waterline tiles and the other assume the old ones stay. Compare scope before price.
We are losing water. Where do we start?
With the bucket test, then leak detection. On a high-volume pool a slow leak hides inside normal evaporation for a long time, so confirming it before the renovation is worth doing.
