Park Ridge South sits south of Park Ridge on the Mount Lindesay Highway side of the city, where newer estate housing runs out into larger semi-rural blocks. It is a mixed picture, but the common thread is that the pools here are young. On a pool built within the last ten or fifteen years the interior is not the problem, and the work worth paying for sits around the pool rather than inside it.
We connect you with experienced, insured local contractors who work Park Ridge South and will tell you honestly when a pool does not need the job being pitched at it.
Finish the block, not the pool
The common Park Ridge South job is the half-done backyard. The pool went in, the builder's scope ended at the shell and the coping, and everything beyond was left for the owner. That means surrounds, paving, a path from the house, and a barrier line that works with the finished levels rather than the bare dirt it was set out on. Changing ground levels near a pool can affect fence height and the non-climbable zone, so the paving plan and the barrier belong in the same conversation.
Barrier compliance on a young fence
A recent fence built to the current standard usually passes on its own merits. What catches owners out is everything added afterwards. A planter box, a barbecue or a trampoline inside the non-climbable zone creates a foothold and fails the inspection, as does a deck that raised the ground level. Gates are the other reliable failure: one that no longer self-closes and self-latches from any position fails regardless of age. The certificate is issued only by a pool safety inspector licensed by the QBCC, and on a non-shared pool it runs two years. Where the pool is shared, such as one serving a body corporate, it runs one year, and on a new lease a Form 36 can be lodged instead, with the pool owner then having 90 days to obtain a certificate. See fencing and compliance.
What it costs here
Guide pricing only. Barrier fixes such as hinges, latches, signage and gap adjustments are often a few hundred dollars, with a run of replacement fencing in the low thousands. The pump supplied with a volume build is often the cheapest unit that met the specification, and a variable-speed replacement, commonly roughly $1,200 to $2,500 installed, is the upgrade that shows on the power bill. See equipment upgrades. Paving and surrounds are quoted on area and material, so they need a site visit. In Queensland, building work valued over $3,300 generally requires a QBCC licensed contractor. The cost guide covers the rest.
Frequently asked questions
Should I renovate the interior while the backyard is being done?
Not on a young pool. Spend the money on the surrounds, the barrier and the equipment. A quality interior commonly gives 15 to 20 years.
Will new paving affect the pool fence?
It can, if it changes ground levels near the barrier. Raise it at the quote so the barrier is designed around the finished levels rather than retrofitted.
My pool went green over a hot week. Is the surface at fault?
Unlikely at this age. Check the chlorinator cell, the filter and the run hours first. See green pool recovery if the water has turned.
